1. Does the person applying for the job, understand what he is interviewing for?


This may seem so obvious, but research says people didn't seem to know what the job entailed, even though they applied for it. Of course, one can't know everything about it. Asking what the job is like on a daily basis is a valid question to ask for at the end of the interview.

But at the very least review the job description and look up anything aren't completely familiar with.

2. Keyword research


First and foremost, employers want to know if you’re qualified for the job. Hiring managers spend most of their time churning through resumes to identify keywords that match the job.

Each time you apply for a job, carefully dissect the job posting. Create a list of skills, knowledge, and experience required for the position that match your experience.

After you’ve created a list, identify the strongest matches. These will be the keywords you’ll use throughout your resume.

3. Roles and Responsibilities.




You’ll need to tailor your resume to each particular job that you apply for, so it’s vital that the job titles and the responsibilities you include in your resume are relevant for the job offered.

Although you need to clarify your previous roles, it’s important that your resume offers more than just a list of your responsibilities.


4. Skills


Ensure you include all relevant skills gained and required of you in previous roles.

Your skills will complement your experience and should ultimately illustrate your suitability for the job offered.



5. Volunteer Experience


Volunteer experience says something positive about you as a person and shows you are interested in something other than a paycheck. Consider staying away from religious or political volunteer work, since it may not align with the hiring manager's views.

You can mention the work you did "worked at a health care clinic in Haiti" without mentioning it was affiliated with a particular religious organization.


6. Does the candidate’s career graph make sense? 



The companies you’ve been employed with, and the positions you’ve held up until now, should combine in one overarching narrative to tell a sensible story.

Hiring managers will examine your professional history to see if it is consistent with your career goals and objectives.

If you appear to be a job jumper or if your career path follows a broken trajectory, be sure that your prospective employer will quiz you on it if you are called for an interview.


7. Easy to Read



Ensure the layout of your resume is clear and consistent, containing only one type of font (bold can be used to highlight) Use bullet points to outline skills, achievements, responsibilities, etc. rather than rambling sentences.

Spelling or grammar mistakes are to be avoided at all costs.


8. Format and Label



Ensure your resume is formatted in such a way that the recipient will be able to open it easily no hiring manager wants to download software to view a resume.

Make sure that when you save your resume, you include your name in the saved title.

It’s also a courtesy to keep your application under 1MB to avoid clogging anyone’s inbox.

You may possess all the desired skills and experience to excel at a role, but if you don’t document them clearly in your resume, you may fall at the first hurdle in being considered for a new role.

9. Metrics
