HOW TO WRITE RESUME SUMMARY.

A resume summary is a professional statement at the top of a resume. It describes the candidate's relevant experience, skills, and achievements.

The first sentence of a resume summary should always include your biggest professional selling points. And for most employers, those selling points are your: highest job title or degree. years of relevant experience.

Is it nessasary to add summary in Resume ?

The short answer is, it depends. Summary statements are usually best for more experienced professionals with years of experiences to tie together with a common theme. Or, alternatively, they can be used to tie together disparate experiences with a set of key transferable skills.

How to Write An Effective Resume Summary

Writing a good resume summary can be boiled down to three main points. It doesn’t matter if you’re applying for a nurse position at a hospital or as a real estate broker.

And if you decide to build your resume with our resume builder, you can choose a Execkart Resume Template suitable for your industry, click on “+ Add Section” and choose the “resume summary” from all the templated sections from Execkart.

1. Mention your strong points/characteristics.

Here are a few examples of strong points/characterstics.

a) Delegation

Delegation skills demonstrate your expertise in allocating tasks based on the skills and professional experience of your team.

b) Analytical thinking

Strong analytical skills help you summarise data and execute a well-planned approach to projects.

c) Teamwork

This skill shows how effectively you function within a team. If you apply for a job that requires close collaboration with others, this skill may improve the results of your efforts.

d) Direct-response emails

Direct-response emails refer to how you design and write an effective email directly to a specific recipient.

You want the employer to understand how you can be valuable to their team.

Therefore, you should focus on any significant achievements, skills, and certifications that correspond with the job position you’re applying to.

2. Use short discription to follow up.

A good resume summary, in a sentence or two, highlights some of your biggest achievements to date, mentions your profession and includes 1-2 of your top skills. For your resume summary to really stand out, though, it should also be tailored to the company's needs.

An effective resume summary follows this formula: Professional Title (if relevant) + Key Experiences (with the total number of years worked) + Top Achievements (preferably measurable results) + Top Skills/Expertise/Unique Values (relevant to the job and industry).

You have to convey value very briefly. It’s a resume summary, so you can’t go very in-depth. Instead, focus on glancing over your experience, and leave the details for later in your work experience section.

3. Don't use more sentences

Keep your summary short and punchy. Just three sentences should be enough.

With around 3 sentences, the reader gets through your resume and quickly identifies the important information as it’s readable and easy to consume.

Another reason you’d want to keep this section short (and use keywords) is because of ATS (applicant tracking system). It helps to get you recognized and see that you’re a qualifiable person to consider for an interview.

So, carefully select the words you’re going to use.

Should you use professional summary on your Resume ?

When crafting your resume, you have an extremely limited amount of space to work with. So we recommend you to delete your professional summary on your Resume. At most, your resume is two to three pages long. At best, it’s only a page.

always aim to show recruiters examples of these characteristics instead of simply telling them.

Professional summaries that incorporate generic buzzwords don’t sound believable without any concrete evidence to back up the statements.

Aim to differentiate yourself from your competition.
